The Road To Omaha: Rice and Southern Miss represent CUSA
CUSA placed just two teams in this season’s NCAA Baseball Tournament
No. 20 Rice and Southern Miss knew they were going to the NCAA Tournament, but they found out their regional destination and opponent on Monday afternoon when NCAA baseball’s field of 64 was announced.
The Owls (38-21) received a No. 2 seed in the Austin Regional at the University of Texas. Rice will open with No. 3 UL-Lafayette (37-20), an at-large selection out of the Sun Belt. Host Texas (46-11), which received the No. 2 national seed, will meet Rider (36-21) in its first game. Rider is representing the MAAC after winning its conference tournament.
The Golden Eagles (35-22), which made a surprise run to Omaha after starting as a No. 3 in the Atlanta Regional last year, will travel to Auburn for regional play.
No. 3 Southern Miss will square off against No. 2 Clemson (38-21) on day one. Host Auburn (40-19), which won the SEC West title, faces No. 4 Jacksonville State (32-24). The Gamecocks made the tournament by capturing the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament title.
