Tulane thumps No. 27 LSU, 9-1The Green Wave and Tigers split their season series After being on the short end of a 10-4 score at the New Alex Box Stadium a month ago, Tulane placed a 9-1 defeat on its in-state rival when it visited Turchin Stadium on Tuesday night. The Green Wave (31-22) received a strong start from Kyle McKenzie and took a commanding lead by doing plenty of two-out damage. Tulane opened the scoring in the first with two out singles by Jeremy Schaffer and Blake Crohan. With two down in the fourth, Gunner Wright delivered a two-out solo shot to left to make it 3-0.
The floodgates opened in the fifth when the Green Wave plated four runs on four hits. The big blow came on second baseman Brennan Middleton’s three-run shot to left that extended the lead to 7-0. Down 9-0 in the top of the ninth, LSU shortstop Austin Nola homered to stop the shutout attempt. Tulane outhit LSU, 12-5. The Green Wave roughed up Bayou Bengal starter Daniel Bradshaw. Bradshaw, who allowed seven runs—six earned in 4.2 innings, suffered his first loss of the season to drop to 5-1. Rick Jones’ club will host UCF this weekend at Turchin Stadium.
