UAB Basketball Recap: Blazers blast Bulls, 78-62

UAB (8-5) defeated former CUSA foe South Florida (7-5) 78-62 on Wednesday night before an announced home crowd of 4,164 at Bartow Arena in Birmingham. This was the 8 th straight win over USF for UAB and the Blazers 18th straight home victory.

The Blazers showed improvement in many areas in their 16-point win, as rebounds were up and turnovers were down. The Blazers played a more up-tempo style, one that was reminiscent of the fastest 40 minutes in basketball they played under Mike Anderson.

The Blazers also had better balance in the scoring column with solid contributions from Lawrence Kinard and Paul Delaney each scoring 13 points. Wen Mukubu scored 12 points and Maurice Gibbs had 11.

This victory makes UAB 3-0 versus the Big East this season. The Blazers have solid wins over Cincinnati, DePaul and now South Florida. That should help on Selection Sunday.

Mike Davis will now take his squad to Miami where it will face defending national champion Florida in the Orange Bowl Classic on December 30 th at 6:30 p.m. (EST).
