UAB Basketball Recap: Blazers smoke Winston Salem State, 84-53

UAB (7-5) breezed through a real cupcake of a game against Winston Salem State (1-15), defeating the Rams, 84-53, on Saturday night before a crowd of 3,773 at Bartow Arena. Winston Salem State is at or near the bottom of the RPI rankings in their first year of Division I competition.

Wen Mukubu scored a career-high 24 points and Lawrence Kinnard poured in 15 points to lead UAB. Paul Delaney, III only scored 9 points, which is well below his average. He did have 12 assists and 7 rebounds.

Winston Salem’s leading scorer was Darius Floyd with 20 points. Brian Fisher contributed 17 points off the bench.

Following the game, Coach Davis jokingly said he was hoping for a shutout against Winston Salem State after the Blazers ran out to an early 12-0 lead. The Blazers had to settle for a blowout win.

A game like this will pad the win column, but even with the big win it will hurt UAB in the RPI rankings.

Next up for UAB will be the South Florida Bulls out of the Big East on December 27th at Bartow Arena. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. (CST) tip-off.
