UTEP vs. Penn basketball recap

Tony Barbee’s debut seems to have his young Miner team starting off on the right foot with a win on Friday against the Penn Quakers 69-66 in the Carrier Dome in the first game of the BCA (Black Coaches Association) Tournament in Syracuse, New York.

Trailing at halftime by a score of 39-38, the Miners seemed to find some urgency against a quality opponent outscoring the Quakers 31-27 in the second half. Turnovers should be a stat that would jump out at anyone, with the Miners having 21 and the Quakers 18.

The high scorers on the Miners side were Guards Stefon Jackson with 21 and Darren Clarke with 16. On the Quakers side were Forwards Mark Zoller with 23 and Forward Steve Danley with 14.

Not including 3-point shooting, shooting percentage for both teams seemed to fare well, with 46.4% for the Miners and 47.2 for the Quakers.
