East Carolina ’s Ellison delivers excellent effort in East-West game6’5 swingman has strong showing in North Carolina High School All-Star game
Tuesday, July 21, 2009
Wakefield Ellison began his collegiate basketball career a few weeks ago when he began taking classes during the second summer school session at East Carolina and working out with the Pirate basketball team. The 2009 Asheville High alum completed his prep career in style on Monday night as he scored 17 points—13 in the second half—while helping the West run away with a 124-92 victory over the East in North Carolina’s Annual All-Star Game at the Greensboro Coliseum.
Ellison demonstrated a well-rounded game, as he knocked down three trifectas while also showing his ability to put the ball on the floor and take it to the basket on multiple occasions. He was the third-leading scorer on his team and in the game. Yale-bound Mike Grace, the game’s MVP, finished with 18 points and future Charlotte 49er KJ Sherrill had 19. The two-time NC Preps all-state selection, who chose East Carolina over programs such as Penn State, Siena and Oregon State, will give the Pirates needed length and athleticism on the perimeter.
