Houston Cougars @ Tulane Green Wave Football PreviewDefending C-USA Champion Cougars look to knock off C-USA foe Tulane
Series record: Houston leads (8-4) The Houston Cougars head out to the Big Easy to take on the Tulane Green Wave, Saturday, September 15th at the New Orleans Superdome. While the Cougars can not afford to take any opponent lightly, this game should be a chance for head coach Art Briles to get another look at both of his QB's. SR RB Anthony "Quick Six" Alridge has only gotten better since last season's 45-7 thrashing of Tulane where he ran for 157 tards on five carries. The Cougars (0-1) are coming off of a disappointing 47-28 loss to Oregon in which they had the Ducks right where they wanted, but let opportunities slip away in the for of four tunrovers and a blocked punt. Tulane (0-1) is coming off of a somewhat similiar experience in a 38-17 loss to Mississippi State, where they were tied at 17 at the half. Tulane never scored again against perhaps the SEC's worst team.
The Cougars will be without backup RB Randall Antoine who was lost for the season to blood clots in his legs. Despite rumors that Alridge was hurt, seeing him at practice has confirmed that there was no fracture to the foot and he will be 100% for the game at Tulane.
The Cougars are in a different league than Tulane from a talent standpoint, but will have to clean up the penalties and turnovers. The Cougars can be their own worst enemy but would have to really implode to lose this one.
The Cougars should run away with this one, with the defense having a breakout game, 35-0. The more compelling numbers should be Quick's rushing yards and QB stats for Blake Joseph and Case Keenum, who will both see the field in New Orleans.
