Blazers last second attempt blocked, fall 32-31 to FAU in opener
UAB can't hold lead at Legion Field on Thursday night
After relinquishing a 16-point lead, UAB had a chance to win on the game's final play. However, the Blazers' 28-yard field goal was blocked and Florida Atlantic outlasted UAB, 32-31, on Thursday night at Legion Field.
The Blazers (0-1) led 14-0 after a quarter and built a 28-12 advantage midway through the third.
However, the Owls cut their deficit to 28-26 after three and went up 32-31 on Alfred Morris' 38-yard touchdown run with 2:20 remaining.
David Isabelle did very well in filling in for the departed Joe Webb on the ground. The new Blazers' signal-caller ran for 214 yards on 22 carries. However, he was 9-of-19 for 79 yards and a pick through the air.
Isabelle's 50-yard run in the waning seconds set up the potential game-winner.
The Blazers outgained the Owls, 424-347, and outrushed them 345-93.
Jeff Van Camp finished his night 14-of-24 for 254 yards. Lester Jean caught nine balls for 164 yards.
