ECU Player Profile: Jasmine Young

Senior – Guard – 5 ’5”

 

One of three seniors on the Lady Pirates team, Jasmine Young’s speed and intensity on the hardwood makes her a real asset to the team.

 

How old were you when you started playing basketball?
“I was seven years old when I first started playing basketball.”

 

What made you decide to play for East Carolina University?
“I decided to play for ECU because I loved the coaching staff, I wanted to help build a program and make a name for East Carolina's Women's Basketball team.”

 

Who or what is your inspiration to play ball?
“My family is my inspiration to play basketball. I have a great support system that backs me up 100 percent.”

 

Do you have any rituals that you do before a game?
“I don't have any rituals I do before a game other than pregame meal with the team and showering.”

 

What are your personal records in basketball?
“I have no idea how many personal records I have in basketball. I know for sure I have reach my 1,000 points mark last year sometime in December. I'm somewhere in the charts for steals and assists as well just don't know exactly where.”

What awards have you won playing basketball?
“Some awards I have received since being at ECU are co- freshman player of the year, 2nd team all conference three years, and all defensive team the last two years. And there have been other awards from tournaments and such I can't name them all though.

 

What else do you like to do on your free time?
“When I have free time, I enjoy shopping. I love buying new clothes and shoes.
I like my money where I can see it, in my closet.”

 

Do you have any role models in your life?
“I have many role models, but can't pick a favorite. (Lisa Leslie, Harold Harris (dad), Laura Harris (mom), Sondra Daniels (aunt) etc.”

 

After graduation what are your plans?
“I'm double majoring in communications and criminal justice. I would like to go and play basketball overseas and work on my masters in criminal justice. Once I return to the states I want to go into the FBI and work with a drug force task team. Later in life I would love to referee the game of basketball, become and coach, and then on my own car shop. I have so much I would love to do after basketball.”

 

What is the best part about being an ECU Pirate?
The best part about being a PIRATE is the community support.”
