Former coach compiled a 122-72 mark in six seasons at UAB
Mike Davis is the latest coaching casualty in Conference USA.
Davis, who joins recently fired Tulsa coach Doug Wojcik and former SMU boss Matt Doherty on the unemployment line, went 122-72 during his six-year tenure in Birmingham.
The former Indiana coach, who compiled a 115-79 mark over six seasons in Bloomington as Bob Knight’s successor, suffers a fate similar to that of Doug Wojcik.
UAB, which has just played basketball since 1978-79, has just three losing seasons in its program’s history and two of those season’s came under Davis.
After Davis’ first team went 15-16, each of his next four teams won at least 22 games. The 2009-10 team went 25-9 while the 2010-11 club won the CUSA regular season title before losing in the “First Four” round of the NCAA Tournament.
Following a frustrating 7-13, 2-5 start this season, the Blazers went 8-3 down the stretch, but the performance wasn’t enough to save Davis’ job.
