TV Money makes College Football go Around

The Big 10, SEC, ACC, and Texas are just some of the college networks. With TV money as the driving force in college sports, especially college football, college programs nationwide are looking for the best possible financial solution. One of the main duties of the AD is how much money can you make for the program. For college AD’s the best way to make money is to create a network and have a nationwide market for your product.

The best example of creating your own network is the Big 10. The Big 10 network is broadcasted nationwide through cable and satellite providers. Notre Dame does not have its own network, but a multi-million dollar contract with NBC is like Notre dame having their own network.

Loyalty is no longer alive in college football. Why? Television contracts are the answer. If you do not think so just ask Missouri and Texas A&M why they jumped to the SEC. Why do CUSA teams jump to the Big East in a heartbeat. Some would say to play for a national championship in football. It is clearly for the reason of how many times can my schools be seen and television and how much money can I make through revenue sharing.

Coaches love playing on television for recruiting purposes. It does not matter how many rivalries have been dissolved by conference realignment. Unfortunately student athletes have become pawns in money making schemes by greedy AD’s and greedy conferences.
