Callaway era comes to a close at UABBlazers finished 3-9 overall and 3-5 in CUSA this season
A day after concluding its 3-9 campaign with a 38-35 loss at previously winless Florida Atlantic, Neil Callaway resigned as the head football coach at UAB. Callaway, who went 18-42 in five seasons with the Blazers, never won more than five games in a season. This year, UAB did defeat East Division giants UCF and Southern Miss at home. However, their only other win was against two-win Memphis and they lost three games (@ East Carolina (28-23), @ Troy (24-23), @ FAU (38-35) by five points or less. Four of the Blazers’ other six losses were by 39 points or more. In 2010, UAB was 4-8 and half of its losses were by five points or less. The program’s best won-loss record under Callaway came in 2009 when the Blazers finished 5-7 and a win away from bowl eligibility. Callaway was hired in December of 2006 after spending six years as the offensive coordinator at the University of Georgia. Stay tuned to cusa-fans.com for updates on the UAB coaching search.
