UTEP vs. St. Francis basketball recapCUSA-fans.com has a new staff of team correspondents this fall to help bring you, the fan, more detailed Conference USA sports coverage. Today, our new UTEP Correspondent Robert Robles brings you a recap of the basketball game between UTEP and St. Francis.
To the Miners, it seemed that in the first half alone, that they could run away with this game. But while they failed to do so, the Miners pulled out a win with a final score of 54-52. The Miners took a little over 3 minutes to find themselves offensively, but when they did they were a constant force on the basketball court. However, with a little over 7 minutes left in the second half, the Miners began to struggle and were unable to put any more points on the board. If any stats are going to impress anyone, they would come from the Miners defense, which made a name for itself last year, as they forced 24 turnovers against the Terriers and ha only 17 themselves. Despite the 7 minute drought of points for the Miners, they were able to pull off the win. The high scorers on the Miner side of the ball were Marvin Kilgore with 15 points and Kevin Henderson with 13. The high scorers on the Terrier side of the ball were Roger Hines with 20 and two players being Gooden and Yessoufou having 8. The Miners shot 35.5% from the field going 22-of-62 while the Terriers shot 34.5% from the field going 19-of-52.
